Ignite & Refocus On Goals

I really want to talk about ignition and igniting that excitement and that passion for your business.

I recently went out with a client and it involved a pretty long drive there and back it was like 13, 14-hour day, meetings in-between, the usual stuff like that.

Ultimately, the point that I want to say that it doesn’t matter how motivated you can be, doesn’t matter how on, on the point you are for your business.

I think we all at some point work a bit too hard, don’t get enough time off, and you know, we stagnate, we go stale or whatever analogy you want to use.

I’d like to think that I’m sort of fairly motivated, I work and try and motivate my clients, try and motivate my team, try and come up with very innovative and new features.

So there’s always a buzz and excitement going off at Mike Midgley Executive.

We’ve always got new stuff going off.

The Big 50, What Will You Do?

But it wasn’t until I did this sort of 12 or 13-hour day with this client, so this client’s a friend, I’ve known him a hell of a lot of years, and we’re talking and then we got to talking about his age is.

I’m 48 this year, that’s 2018, the client’s about a year and a half younger than me, and we talked about that magic 50 number, are we going to retire, and would it be 50, 55.

I don’t ever think I’ll retire, but you know I’ve certainly got some plans you know to reach a certain level, maybe liquidate a lot of assets, convert that into various other things and then maybe go off and do another chapter in my life.

We talked and the simple question was, but Mike that doesn’t sound like you just acquiring and liquidating, you know about acquiring and growing or exiting but not liquidating.

I really got excited about it.

I didn’t realise how flat I’d actually got in my own self, my own not lack of focus of my goals, I’m pretty strict with that, doing my affirmation statements every morning, every night.

There’s a great section about writing or building, writing your affirmations and then practising it, and following that through.

But, the key aspect of what I was trying to get to is totally motivated, totally focused on my team, for my clients, for my product, for my marketplace.

Not until I sort of refocused and doubled down on my goals, you know really started to look at then if I do liquidate all these assets.

I do sort of put myself in what I call a stockpile of cash, what would I actually go and do about it.

We talked about going around the states watching the baseball season, going around Europe and the world watching Formula 1.

My wife’s a big Formula 1 fan, I’m a big baseball fan and things like that, and it really got the fire going.

Have You Updated Your Focus Goals?

It really ignited it.

That ignition came back even though I’d had a 13, 14-hour day, I actually came back, I went in, I went upstairs, got changed, went into the office, and I actually rewrote my focus goals.

I put some cash amounts on there, and then ultimately, I put some goals.

If we reach this liquidated cash amount or asset amount, what would that allow us to do, and what would that allow us to do at 50 or 55 and things like that.

Ultimately, what it did is it helped me reignite, it helped me get refocused and really get me back on track.

So a big thanks to my customers for helping me, kick me up the backside and refocus and redouble down.

I certainly needed it, and I’m now back on the trail.

So, in your business, if you want to, have a think about that, what makes you passionate, what gets you excited, how can you, what’s that stimulus that’s going to really reignite your business and then we’ll go from there.
